OpenVPN runs on UDP or TCP port 1194. What blocks one of those may not block the other. What you need to do is to check if port 1194 is blocked or not. You could ask the network administrators at your work, or you can test it yourself.
Jan 16, 2013 · We are running ZERINA-0.9.5b and iPCop 1.4.21 right now. I am able to open the certificate file on my iPhone and it asks for a user name and password which I assume is the Name and Password found in the Client status and control portion of the OpenVPN configuration and nothing seems to happen. For remote access VPN, you can use IPsec, but I prefer OpenVPN and would suggest it over IPsec. It's less troublesome because firewalls the client is behind are less likely to break it than IPsec. Also make sure you use 1.2 beta for new installs, it's a better choice than 1.0 as it's much less buggy.
One great addon is the Zerina OpenVPN addon, which is an alternative method of constructing a VPN that is simpler to use than IPSec yet cross-platform. It's based on OpenSSL for secure transport. OpenVPN is regarded as secure, compared to some of the amateur efforts at VPNs in the past like CIPE.
OpenVPN is designed to operate optimally over UDP, but TCP capability is provided for situations where UDP cannot be used.
